For most arrivals, take a taxi or app cab to your accommodation’s exact address or nominated Old City gate. Buses need checking on arrival.
Compare taxis, app cabs, hotel transfers, autos and buses from Jaipur airport to the Old City, with terminal and drop-off advice.

For most arrivals, the simplest transfer is a taxi, app-based cab or pre-booked hotel car to the accommodation’s exact address. Jaipur International Airport is in Sanganer, outside the historic walled city. Traffic and the final approach through busy bazaar streets can make journey times variable, so check a live map after collecting your bags rather than planning around a fixed duration.
If your hotel is in a lane that cars cannot enter, ask the property for its nominated gate or landmark before flying.
Decide on the drop-off point first
“Old City” is too broad for a useful booking pin. Jaipur’s historic core has a grid of market streets and public squares called chaupars, as UNESCO’s description of the walled city explains.
Enter the full property name, address and map pin. Depending on the location, a hotel may suggest one of these reference points:
- Badi Chaupar for accommodation near Hawa Mahal, City Palace or the eastern part of Johari Bazaar;
- Chandpole Gate or Choti Chaupar for the western side of the walled city;
- Sanganeri Gate, New Gate or a property-specific stopping point for accommodation around Bapu Bazaar.
Do not choose Hawa Mahal merely because it is recognisable if your hotel is elsewhere in the walled city. Save the hotel’s phone number so the driver can confirm the last part of the route.
Taxi or app cab: the best all-round choice
Jaipur airport says passengers can use metered taxis, app-based cabs and car rentals, with pickup points at both terminals. Its passenger guidance is more specific: prepaid taxis are available at the domestic terminal, while private taxi counters are in the arrival areas of both terminals (airport transport information; to-and-from-airport guidance).
Taxi counter
A staffed counter is useful if you do not have mobile data, do not want to arrange an app account or prefer to settle the transfer before leaving the terminal.
Show the counter your hotel’s full address and ask:
- the total fare to that destination;
- whether parking, waiting or night charges are included;
- where to meet the vehicle;
- whether the car can reach the hotel door or only an agreed gate.
Keep the receipt and vehicle details until the journey is complete. Use a counter in the arrivals area rather than responding to an unsolicited offer in the terminal or forecourt.
App-based cab
An app cab lets you see the quote and vehicle details before boarding. Follow the pickup location shown in the app; if it is unclear, ask airport staff rather than assuming T1 and T2 use the same lane.
Put the accommodation itself into the app. Substitute a gate or landmark only when the property has told you that a car cannot reach its entrance. Before boarding, match the registration number and driver details to the booking.
App prices can change with demand and traffic. Compare the live quote with the taxi-counter price after landing instead of relying on an old fare quoted online.
Pre-booked hotel transfer: useful for a difficult arrival
A transfer arranged by the hotel or guesthouse may justify its higher price when:
- the flight arrives late;
- a group has several bags;
- the property is difficult to find inside the walled city;
- a larger vehicle or child restraint must be arranged;
- you will not have mobile data on arrival.
Get the final price in writing. Ask whether it includes airport parking, waiting after a flight delay and any walk or luggage carry between the vehicle stop and the property. Send the flight number and terminal, not only the scheduled arrival time.
Terminal 1 resumed international operations in October 2024, while Terminal 2 was handling domestic flights at that time, according to The Hindu’s report on the reopening. Check the terminal on the current airline booking because operational arrangements can change.
Auto-rickshaw: possible with light luggage
The airport’s passenger guidance says metered auto-rickshaws are available outside both terminals. An auto can work for one or two people with manageable bags, but a taxi will generally be more comfortable with large luggage, a bigger group, rain or intense heat.
Confirm the destination and whether the meter will be used before leaving. If the driver proposes a fixed fare, agree on the total for the vehicle—not a per-person amount—and specify whether the trip ends at the hotel door or at a particular gate.
Bus: check the actual service after landing
The bus is a potential low-cost option, but the airport does not publish a dependable Old City-specific timetable on its current pages. Its transport page says buses from T2 serve Jaipur ISBT, with stops through the city, while T1 has buses to Sikar and Sardar Shahar; those T1 services do not solve an Old City transfer. Separate airport guidance says JCTSL city buses connect key parts of Jaipur with the airport (official airport bus summary).
Use a bus only if a suitable departure is confirmed when you arrive. The JCTSL – Jaipur City Transport Android app advertises live vehicle locations, estimated arrivals and mobile ticketing; its listing was updated in June 2026 (Google Play listing). Search for your terminal or airport stop and the nearest practical Old City landmark, then check whether the journey requires a change.
If the only confirmed service goes to the inter-state bus terminal, an onward transfer with luggage may cancel out much of the saving in convenience. Do not build a tight arrival plan around route numbers copied from old bus lists.
A simple arrival plan
- Save the hotel address, map pin and phone number offline. Ask whether a car can reach the entrance.
- Check the terminal on the current flight booking. T1 and T2 have separate pickup locations.
- After baggage claim, compare the current app-cab quote with the staffed taxi option.
- Confirm the complete fare and drop-off point before leaving. Keep the app booking or taxi receipt available.
- Verify the vehicle before boarding. Match the number plate for an app booking.
- Ask airport staff if the pickup point is unclear. Information desks are in the arrival halls of both terminals, and the airport lists 24-hour assistance numbers on its information-desk page.
- Check the seat and luggage area before the vehicle leaves at your destination.
For a straightforward first arrival, choose a taxi or app cab to the exact accommodation or its nominated gate. Use an auto when travelling light, and treat the bus as an option to verify on the day rather than a guaranteed Old City shuttle.
